
2012 RRVW Competition Rules
Entries: Mail-in entries will not be accepted. Competition entry fees must be paid at the time of entry. If you are entering pieces for carvers who are not in attendance, you are responsible for the pieces and must pick them up at the end of the show.
Entry fees: $7.00 for the first piece entered. $4.00 for each additional piece entered.
Judging: Criteria are based on craftsmanship, accuracy, originality and artistry. Three judges will judge all categories. Judges will determine the proper category for a piece should a question arise. Judges may request that an entry be moved to a different category. Judges and show committee may remove any piece deemed inappropriate for this type of event. Judges may choose not to issue an award in a category. Judges decisions are final and are not subject to review.
General Rules: Entries must have been carved within the last 2 years. Cannot have been entered in this competition previously. Must be entirely the work of the carver who enters the piece (see category 15, instructor assisted.) Must be entered in the appropriate skill level (see skill level definitions.) Cannot have loose or unstable pieces. Multiple pieces must be attached to a base. Size and weight restrictions may apply.
Skill Levels
Novice: Participants in this level cannot have won first place or any top award in this or any other competition. No more than 2 years of wood carving experience.
Intermediate: Participants cannot have won Best of Novice Level, Best of Intermediate Level or Best of Show in this or any other competition.
Open: Anyone can enter this level. Participants who have won Best of Show or Best of Intermediate Level award in this or any competition MUST enter this level.
