Featured Carver: Desiree Hajny
Desiree Hajny has been a full time carver since 1985. Prior to her carving career she was a high school art instructor. She has authored six books and contributed to many
others. At the International Wood Arts Festival, Desiree’s project will be a sitting bear cub.
If her class at the Show fills and there is enough interest, a second class will be offered Monday and Tuesday at In The Chips in Moorhead. The projects will be different but the hours and tuition will be the same. In The chips is located at 303 21st St. N. in Moorhead.
At the International Wood Arts Festival, Desiree’s project will be a sitting bear cub. The cost of the blank is $25 and payable to the instructor at class time. In addition to the usual palm tools and glove, a wood burner will be needed. The following paints will also be needed: burnt umber, dull white, black, yellow ochre. A detail brush and brush for dry brushing will also be needed. A DVD covering carving, painting, etc. will be provided. The class will meet Friday, April 10, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., April 11, 2015, 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and April 12, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Tuition for the class is $130 and is payable with registration. Call regarding the second class.

The Red River Valley Woodcarvers is a group of individuals from Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas who enjoy the art of woodcarving. Our membership includes a wide range of skill levels.
Never carved before? No problem. We provide education and mentorship in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. We encourage anyone who is interested in woodcarving to attend one of our monthly meetings.
